Taurus/Scorpio

This is the polarity of values and profundity. Sometimes called the “money” polarity, they relate to the second house (Taurus), which is income and personal values, and the eighth (Scorpio) which is outgo of money and other peoples’ values, but also funds held jointly with others…like insurance, taxes, inheritances, partner’s income, and debt. A good way to remember it is the eighth is about money in which others have an interest. Any planets in those houses will behave somewhat as though they are in the signs related to them. It is also the sexual polarity. Taurus, an earth sign, represents fertility—mother earth. It comes in the spring when the ground is ready for sowing seed and growing crops. Scorpio moves beyond that and must have “meaning” in a relationship. It is looking for total union with another wherein the couple is more than the sum of each partner. Although known as the sexiest of signs, it is really quite capable of celibacy until a relationship with depth and meaning comes along. The only thing is, Scorpio reasons, “if we are ‘one,’ then I am you and you are me, ergo, I can tell you what to do.” Scorpio consumes and controls. Taurus The first thing you think about Taurus is the Bull. It was a wise person who mentioned that it’s not the raging bull it represents, but rather “Ferdinand” lazing around in the field smelling flowers. Taurus is more like that. If you watch this short cartoon on YouTube, you will see a wonderful allegory of what Taurus is like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGTVRbpAuRo However, as the saying goes, “Beware the anger of a patient man.” Taurus, wanting to avoid a confrontation, will hint quietly if something is displeasing (and most people ignore it), but suddenly—and Taurus, himself, doesn’t even know when—he will explode or remove himself from the situation if exploding is not wise. This is true if it’s the ascendant or Moon in Taurus, as well. Taurus appreciates the senses (especially scent) and is very physical. Taken to extremes, it can be the laziest of all the signs, but also perhaps the most patient. The essential goal of Taurus is to find value and meaning in life, plus peace and security. A little sensual pleasure thrown in, too, is welcome. Both Taurus and Libra are Venus-ruled signs, and both are non-confrontational. However, there is a difference. The Libran Venus is more interested in relationships and being accepted in society. So those heavily influenced by that sign will strive to get along with everyone more than anything else. Taurus, on the other hand, is placid but set in a pattern of his or her own choosing. It’s not that they are trying to be accepted when they don’t argue; it’s that they know they are not going to change their minds, so why argue about it? You’ll hear things like, “I see what you mean.” or “If I were in your place, I’d do that too.” or “I hear you.” You’ll notice there wasn’t an agreement there if they don’t really agree—just acquiescence to your point of view. You can’t discuss Taurus without mentioning money and food. They represent security to the Taurus, so when those things are stored away safely, they can relax and be the artistic, pleasant people they are. Most of the time, Taurus (or Taurus rising or Moon) has a melodious voice, thick or wavy hair and smooth skin and are usually attractive, although tending gracefully toward the stout side. Think of the bull—thick neck, strong shoulders—especially if it’s the rising sign. Scorpio The opposite of Taurus is Scorpio, and it is definitely “opposite.” With Taurus, you don’t necessarily find extremely strong passionate convictions—money in the bank, peace, valued work, and good food will do. But Scorpio is intensely passionate about everything. You will find the intensely positive preacher, like Billy Graham, or the intensely negative vindictiveness of Charles Manson. Very seldom is there a middle ground. Scorpio is intensely loyal to friends, but you wouldn’t want one for an enemy. Usually, they “get even” in triplicate for what they perceive to be a grievance, and since it is a water sign and very emotional, the grievance doesn’t have to be intended toward them or even real. All is in perception. My teacher used to say that Scorpio’s main problem is in not knowing where their “flight area” ends and another’s begins, so usually they are unconsciously controlling. She used the example of a mother-in-law who didn’t like her daughter-in-law’s kitchen curtains, so “surprised” her by hanging up some of her own choosing as a gift. It is the ultimate in controlling behavior to make changes in someone else’s home without their permission. Most of the time, sadly, they really believe they are doing you a favor. One way to control people is to act as if one is sharing inside information with someone, but in reality, is drawing information FROM them. Scorpios are secretive and do not reveal private information, like how much money they make or have saved, for instance. But many can be talkative and friendly, so before you know it, you are spilling your guts, so to speak. I’d think carefully before revealing anything to or confiding in a Scorpio. On the other hand, they make great detectives and lawyers. All of this will apply to Scorpio rising and Scorpio Moon, as well as a tenanted eighth house. The positive types will be controlling too, but it will be “for your own good”—like saving your soul for you. Many evangelists are influenced by this sign. They are good people, with hearts in the right place, but have so much passion about whatever the issue is, they “forget where their flight area ends.” Scorpio and Taurus are fixed signs. And fixed water (Scorpio) is ice. Scorpio is a cool customer and can appear impassive and emotionless while seething inside. What you see is not necessarily what you get.

  1. Oh yes, my friendship was strongly invited by a Scorpio by a Scorpio with Pluto in 2nd and SN and sun in 5th, Merc./Nep in 3rd, indeed life altering for me. She solicited my friendship for information in name of friendship and I ended up working for her for 15 plus years and then she just got tired of me and passive/aggresively threw me away. Was like ugly divorce for me and I think I just knew to much. But I knew more abourt her finances than even her family, I timed a huge Sotherbys auction that turned out incredible, and many more financial transactions. She was born 2 weeks before my exhusband and I've never known adult that lie about stupid things as well as bill like they do. Very painful

  2. Keep in mind that there are some very fine Scorpios, too. When talking about these archetypes, we have to consider that there are no "pure" examples of them. All of us are a mixture of many influences. The most positive Scorpios I've met seem to have a strong energy from Pisces or Neptune, which adds a quality of compassion.

  3. much appreciate coming across this article. i have been recently pondering over my 1st and 2nd houses. though i am a libra ascendent, scorp energy fills a great deal of my 1st and rules my second. i also have neptune in the 2nd. learning about this energy has opened a lot of my personality to me in an objective way - and indeed, helped me peek into my 12th house, too.
this is the first concise and clear overview of the energies i have come across over the last couple of months. of course, its the hours and hours of study on it that makes it possible for me to say this. thanks, carole, for putting it so well.

p.s. i hail from fairfax, though am not even in that hemisphere at the moment, so 'hey, fellow virginian!' :)

  4. "Hey, yourself!" I expected to get a big backlash for this one from Scorpios. However, it has been surprisingly not so. Because they feel so deeply and passionately, a rejection hurts all the more. A couple months ago I got a call from a Scorpio stranger in another state wanting a compatibility analysis done with his girlfriend. She was breaking up with him, and he was relentlessly hanging on and looking for a way to MAKE her come back. Long story short, I told him to let go, but he kept calling with questions to guide (control) me to his way of thinking. I had to block his number, but he just used someone else's phone and kept on and on calling every few hours. It was a typical VERY negative Scorpio "control" example. BUT, that kind of persistence will get things done if it's a good cause that needs tenacity.

  5. What about the comparison of Scorpios with eagles? Can one sign be that bad. Other signs have some very serious problems too! I am a Scorpio and most people call me too nice! What gives? Pam

  6. These are descriptions of archetypes. I make it rather personal to effect easy reading, but everyone is a combination of many things and no one is a "pure" type. The archetype of the "eagle" for Scorpio is good, and many, like the example of Billy Graham are wonderful people. Most of the time, however, those have a strong influence from something else--often Cancer,Pisces or Neptune. One of my dearest friends was a Scorpio with a Pisces Moon, but it was the Moon that indicated her very compassionate side, and when blended with the intensity of Scorpio, she was a powerful instrument of justice when she saw the need for it. An Eagle is a powerful bird--a real predator. You wouldn't compare it to a sparrow. When Scorpio embodies that archetype, s/he flies above lower instincts, but is nevertheless a powerful presence. I might add that I write about all the other signs in terms of their negative side, too. Scorpio reacts much more strongly because of its innate intensity.

  7. This is all myoscopic unparalleled inconsistancy which I fundamentally base as control and negative bias....I am a Scorpio born Nov 2 a lot of what was said about Scorpio is and may be true....lest we forget we are all human and that man was just in deep love is all...he didn't want to see her go he loved her beyond the planet's of her understanding...not cuz the dudes a Scorpio...I will admit yes we love deep....but we are warriors...SPARTANS!! love can and has to be put aside so that we can meet our enemies before they meet our families type thing....we are spiritually in constant battle wether in life or conscience....we are very far out there and the farther out were pushed the less onowledge can be spread to the human race....every sign needs every sign....you and everyone else who isnt a Scorpio and have these negative dispostions towards us will realize that when that day comes

  8. I am a scorpio and from where I stand, I just love people and that is something every one should be passionate about, but it's not to say I want to zombiefy or have control over peoples mind per say but to add to it. now wether you choose to take advice is totally up to whoever and life goes forward. I think us scorpions get bad raps because we have what every body lost.....passion I mean any body who's everybody needs to try passion, it's really fun. And to also add I think depending on the circumstances that anyone can go through determines how they treat any relationship. And usually until you experience the level of things that make us snap then you would then understand our tempers.....and there usually for me some doozers....but i'm usually peaceful. But I like who I am and think most people really miss out on one of the best signs because the first perception is we are freaks......smh

  9. I am a scorpio, and I might just add a few points here. I am not a follower of charts, so have zero idea of what moons, houses, or anything else might influence my supposed 'being'. I am astounded at the way people presume to know anything about a person based on their birth sign. Though many of the profile's indications appear true for me, I wonder at the way they are delivered like a prescription, as in a scorpio will be like this, or like that, given whatever house they're influenced by. If I were to prescribe myself to these indications, I would then have to choose: am I an eagle, or...? I am usually very reticent to reveal my sign when asked, and I do get asked, because I sense the asker is having trouble reading me. Once there is that ambiguity in the observer, I consider their question to be more a revelation of some need within themselves. It is more like 'I don't get you and you're making me nervous, so I need to find a way to label you'. I never reveal my sign under these circumstance, and usually find a way to change the subject quickly before exiting the encounter altogether. So I suppose my point is, and it is about the comments, when you meet someone how is it you know to the nth degree about their 'chart'. If they are a scorpio, why did they not run a mile when you asked?

  10. It is interesting that normally about 200 people read my posts. For this sign, it was close to 2000! It is a statement of how passionate the Scorpio energy is. To address the above post, I have said over and over and over, that signs are a STARTING POINT, not the sum total of a person.

  11. hi my name is matt and i find my self curious about this to a point. i find horoscopes, the Chinese zodiac, and numerology all very interesting but here is the thing i wonder about in people. does one read these and think to themselves I'm this sign... it says i behave this way... do individuals prescribe themselves to fit the mold subconsciously? if anyone is wondering i am a scorpio with virgo moon, i am a an ox with wood element, and my life path number is 5.... we can find our reflections in anything it would seem at times.

  12. I've been doing home parties since 1980 where I go to a place full of people I've never met and interpret their charts one-on-one for about a half hour each. Most of them know nothing about astrology. Many times I hardly look at the sun sign because it isn't the most important thing in the chart. They HAVE to have their time of birth to the minute (twins are different) or I won't do it. If I can believe their reactions, it's always very accurate, and often they do NOT fit their sign. The signs are like an alphabet, and an accurately timed chart will combine all the signs, planets, houses, etc. to blend into a description of a unique individual. So, no, I don't think most people subconsciously think of themselves as proscribed by their sign. Most people I've met are a little defiant about NOT fitting it, but do enthusiastically agree with the description of their whole chart's interpretation, which often is quite different.

  13. thats neat to know, i dont know any astrologers so your the first i have actually talked to about the subject. then in your opinion why do people put such an emphasis on the sun sign then?
for the record i do enjoy reading on this kind of subject and tend to put some stock in it to a certain extent. forgive me i just like to challenge people on what they say and believe lol.

  14. It makes money. Sometime in the 18th century (I think it was then), someone came up with it to give Astrology to the masses. Before that it was the privilege of royalty. Personally, I wish no one had ever dreamed up the "Sun Sign Column." It trivializes a fantastic body of knowledge that is as in-depth as medicine or any other science.

  15. is there a book you would recommend on the subject?

  16. My favorite beginner books are "The Complete Astrology" by Alan Oken and "Astrology: A Cosmic Science" by Isabel Hickey. Isabel's was my first introduction to serious astrology. I wore out my first copy. It isn't as detailed as Alan's so his might be the better value if you have to choose.
Any Stephen Forrest book is good and very readable. On Amazon they would describe them, so you can decide which would be the most "beginner." I only own his advanced books. You will never be sorry studying this. It's mind-blowing.

  18. I am trying to get to grips with understanding a man who is Taurus with both Scorpio and Leo. Who he really is, depends on how you hold the kaleidoscope. Thank you for the above article.
